Debate club shines at 2019 Harvard Model Congress

Our student debate delegation, accompanied by Nicholas Bunch, Catherine Swann and Mary Harvey, had a very successful trip to the 2019 Harvard Model Congress Europe competition held in Madrid. Debating sessions were of a high standard and our delegation of 30 students won 3 Best delegate and 7 Honorable Mention awards.

"The two and a half day's tournament was intense and everyone had to be seriously committed to perform well. Our school's delegation had to compete against more than 500 students and I am pleased to report that our students debated with skill and an impressive sense of team spirit," Mary Harvey, English teacher and Debate Club leader, said.

Students also visited the Reina Sofia museum, where they studied Picasso's 'Guernica', before going on to a guided tour of the Spanish Civil War, as experienced by the people of Madrid.

The Debate Club team thanks all those who contributed to their success at HMCE 2019, including the directors and department heads, and Marie-Caroline Fischer, for her invaluable assistance in the organisation of the trip.
