Poetry by Heart - 2016

For the second year in a row, the English Department of École Jeannine Manuel, in association with ELSA France, hosted the French National School Final of Poetry By Heart, Saturday, March 12, 2016. Poetry By Heart is a popular competition co-founded by Sir Andrew Motion which is held annually in the UK. 
11 schools from across France – École Jeannine Manuel Paris and Lille, the Canadian Bilingual School of Paris, the International School of Lyon, the British Council, Collège/Lycée Camille Sée, Collège Pasteur, Lycée International Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the Institut de La Tour, the Institut Notre Dame and Blanche de Castille took part in the competition. 
45 talented students (10 for première, 15 for seconde and 20 for troisième) were selected by their schools to compete by reciting two poems chosen from over 200 available on the Poetry by Heart Anthology. Congratulations to all the winners ! 


  • Winner : Marina VERNICK - Collège/Lycée Camille Sée, who recited Envy by Adelaide Anne Procter and Josephine Baker Finds Herself by Patience Agbabi
  • Runner up : Louis SERGEANT - École Jeannine Manuel Paris, who recited A Forsaken Garden by Algernon Swinburne and Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers


  • Winner : Caitlin TAPHORN - École Jeannine Manuel Lille, who recited Ulysses by Tennyson and The Colonel by Carolyn Forché
  • Runner up : Thomas QUINN - École Jeannine Manuel Paris, who recited Two Pages by Choman Hardi and A Frog's Fate by Christina Rosetti


  • Winner : Malo GLEDHILL - Collège/Lycée Camille Sée, who recited Paradise Lost by Milton and St Kevin and The blackbird by Heaney
  • Runner up : Erik STYLIANIDIS - Collège/Lycée Camille Sée, who recited Out, out by R Frost and Envy by A A Procter
