BAC 2020: Exceptional results despite a dark shadow for some IB students

Congratulations to the class of 2020 for their excellent French baccalaureate (OIB) and International Baccalaureate (IB) results!  Despite the pandemic, our students brought the school vision and mission to life by showing themselves to be creative, united and self-directed.

French Baccalaureate with international option (OIB)

École Jeannine Manuel – Paris students achieve a 100% pass rate, but more importantly, with 100% honors, including 75% with Very High Honors (TB) and 18% with High Honors (B).

International Baccalaureate (IB) results

With a 100% pass rate, an average of 35 points out of 45, and 15% of the cohort obtaining 40+ points (including a student with 45 points), this year’s results are similar to those of prior years and confirm our School at the top of IB World Schools in France, both in terms of cohort size and academic achievement.

However, this performance masks deep injustices due to this year’s IB marking, when the May 2020 session exams were cancelled due to the pandemic.  Worldwide, nearly 25,000 persons and hundreds of schools, including ours, have complained about an opaque and flawed marking algorithm.  In response to these complaints, which have been widely reported in the international press, the IB has proposed an appeal mechanism which is ongoing.

Our school and its teams have been fully committed, since July 5, to supporting the students concerned (around a quarter of this year’s cohort), both in seeking remarks and as part of their admissions to British universities.
