A warm welcome from the Director of Boarding

A warm welcome to the website for École Jeannine Manuel, Lille boarding school. I hope you find all the necessary information to decide if boarding is going to bring out the best in your child.

We have over 100 students in our care every week. Approximately 65% come from Paris, 10% from other parts of France, and 25% come from all corners of the globe including London, Brussels, Luxembourg, Moscow, Cameroon, Gabon, Tanzania, Singapore, Korea, China, Iran and New Zealand. It truly is an international environment in the spirit of Jeannine Manuel who founded our school over 60 years ago.

Our location is unique. Lille is a vibrant city of over 1 million people but with a village feel. Excellent public transport gives access to Gare Lille Europe and Gare Lille Flandres that have quick links via TGV or Eurostar to Paris (1hour), London (1.5 hours) and Brussels (45 minutes). France’s main International Airport, Charles de Gaulle, is less than an hour away by TGV fast train. Our students have opportunities during the year to visit the World Heritage city of Bruges (45 minutes), Ypres the home of World War 1 commemoration (30 minutes), the beautiful Dutch capital of Amsterdam (under 3 hours) and the Louvre in Lens (45 minutes). We really are very fortunate in our location.

The facilities at École Jeannine Manuel are exceptional. The accommodation is hotel standard with each room having a nautical feel. In each room students have wash and shower facilities, study space, storage space and a comfortable bed. The gymnasium and sports facilities are world class. The shared areas include a common room with satellite television and a restaurant.

The boys boarding house and the girls boarding house each have three corridors of ten twin rooms. Each corridor has a boarding master who supports the students during the week in their preparation for school, their evening study and their preparation for bed. During the day we have a boarding office team who ensure the school day goes smoothly for our students along with providing all the administrative support that is required in the smooth running of a boarding house with over 100 students.

The health and mental well-being of our students is paramount. We are fortunate to have the full-time support of our matron, Madame Lefort, a trained health professional who ensures that our students are expertly cared for should the need arise.

Developing well-rounded students who can thrive in a fast-paced, technology driven ever changing global environment is one of our core aims.

Each day students participate in enrichment sessions. Enrichment is an important part of the school day giving students the chance to exercise, play team sports and develop all sorts of life skills that may not haven been gained in the class room. We are delighted with the benefits that enrichment provides our students.

Our evening study programme encourages independent study skills and supports the technology integrated curriculum students follow at school. Study is supervised and students have the added resource of subject teachers being present every evening. Academic results are monitored. Students who achieve excellence and students who are making good progress are celebrated. Students who need support to make progress are supported. The study culture amongst our students is excellent.

In conclusion our aim is to develop the organisation, independence, tolerance and understanding of students in our care. These are skills for life. On a daily basis our aim is to ensure that our students are well-rested, active and above all, happy. Science tells us that happy children learn best.

Once again I hope you find all the information you need on the web pages here but if you require any further information or you would like to visit us please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

Graham Diedrichs
